Origin Coffee in Rocklin, California, is home to several regulars which are well known by its employees.
Origin Coffee is a non-profit business. All of its employees are volunteers.
“If I’m going to give my dollars away to an establishment, why would I not want my money going to compassion work?” Totem asked. “There’s a sign out there that says every cup of coffee they give money to fight child trafficking. I want to give my money to that.”
Matt Totem, said he has been going to Origin Coffee almost every day for the past two years.
“I think people actually come here to get stuff done, whereas Starbucks people get talking and it gets pretty loud,” Totem said. “I feel like I can come here and people are reading and working, and it doesn’t get too loud.”
Because it’s near William Jessup, a Christian University, many customers at Origin Coffee are Christians.
“You see a lot of people come here, they’re reading their Bible or having discussions,” Totem said. “There’s a women’s group that meets here. There’s guys that come and they want to talk about the Bible. I think I gravitate towards that element of this environment.”
Although Totem lives a city over in Lincoln, he said he enjoys Origin’s work-friendly, Christian environment. These unique qualities of this local coffee shop attract the kind of people Totem enjoys being around.
“And the coffee’s good,” Totem said.
